I was a gymnast myself and loved every minute of it. It is a great sport for children of all ages
as it not only promotes fitness and flexibility, it also teaches discipline and teamwork.
Unfortunately, an injury cut my gymnastics career short, but all was not lost because this injury
opened the doors to my new found passion, coaching.
I have been involved in the sport for over 17 years and was fortunate enough to have received some expert coaching by one of the UK’s top coaches, Eddie Van Hoof; who also led the Men’s Great Britain team to the Olympics in 1984.
Many coaches influenced my move towards coaching – I wanted to give something back to the
sport that I loved so much. I took the decision and have been coaching gymnastics for the last
16 years.
Aged 18, I was given the responsibility of Head of the Girls Development Squad at Hendon and
I started teaching in many schools around Barnet. I continued to develop and progress my
coaching knowledge and skills which led me to becoming the head coach of the junior squad at Heathrow Gymnastics Club. I coached at Heathrow for 7 years where I developed my knowledge and experience in elite gymnastics.
I have since become extremely involved in elite gymnastics and competitions. This has seen me attend national squad training sessions at Loughborough and Lilleshall National sports centre,
Great Britain and Romania team training camps, competitions around the world such as South Africa, Malta and LA and England Squad training sessions.
Teaching gymnastics to all ages and abilities is an important part of my life and something that
I want to continue focusing on. My main objective is to promote and develop gymnastics in
schools and concentrate on delivering fun sessions, which give the children a feeling of self-achievement. This will improve self-confidence, develop their fitness levels and enable them to learn gymnastics in a safe and happy environment.
Physiotherapy
I qualified from Colchester in 2005 and was employed by the NHS. This allowed me to gain experience in many areas and as a result I now work for a top clinic in North West London as
well as a physiotherapist for the Great Britain World class Gymnasts.
My qualifications are:
• SCC qualified gymnastics coach
• BSc Hons in Physiotherapy
• Pilates Matwork and Gymball
I am also CRB checked.
Many thanks go to the late Jim Hall in my early days of gymnastics, Eddie Van Hoof and Alex Pakrah for their inspirational coaching, and Vince and Michele Walduck (Heathrow Gymnastics
Club Directors) for their World Class knowledge, support and numerous given opportunities
within the sport.
